Mango Madness

One of our daily customers at the bank I work at is the local farmers market. To repay us for counting their deposits, they often bring us some fresh fruit. Sometimes it'll be a few boxes of strawberries, or a giant box of oranges. This week they brought us a nice helping of mangoes. Other than a tropical fruit cocktail, I really had no idea what to use a mango for. I brought a few home and did some recipe searching to find one I like that seemed surprisingly simple, mango sorbet.

Chopping up a mango was not what I expected. There's this flat pit in the middle that made it rather difficult for a newbie like me to get an even slice out of it. I managed, but it wasn't easy.

Mango, sugar, and yogurt are the only ingredients this recipe called for. Everything got blended together and put away to freeze. An ice cream machine would come in handy here, but unfortunately I don't have one (insert sad face here). I used the old fashion method and stirred it every half hour for about 4 hours. It had a really nice smooth texture after those couple hours, like a normal sorbet would, but when I returned to it the next day it had a more italian ice feel to it.

It tasted great, but I was grumpy that it wasn't as amazing as the night before. That's when I decided to butcher it! I took some yogurt, a banana and a whole bunch load of the sorbet and blended them into a really amazing smoothie. It may no longer be a sorbet, but I'm not complaining.
